Did you get your computer from a manufacturer like HP, Dell etc and have XP already installed when you got it? If so, these computers usually come with a set of restore discs (or it’s right on the hard drive and you’ll need to access it during start up) that will allow you to restore/reset to factory settings, basically like taking it out of the box again.
If you don’t have these discs, or are not sure how to go about accessing this stuff, call your manufacturer. They can either get the discs for you or tell you which button to press during start up.
Good luck.

Since your operating system resides on your hard drive, you can’t entirely erase the disk without removing the operating system. Unless of course you have multiple disks, then you could erase any disk other than the one containing the OS.
You could format your drive and then reinstall the operating system though.
